I agree with both of you that landing that first entry-level job is a challenge, but it can be done, especially with careful presentation and determination. Don't rule out contract or temporary work, or other jobs within the legal industry, even if it's administrative assistant or legal secretary.

Make sure you have a functional resume that emphasizes your transferable skills to legal jobs. Network at your local paralegal association. Take some CLE classes for paralegals to keep your skills current and list them on your resume until you have more legal experience.

I'm with you jellilorum. I just finished school & every single job posting I find want paralegals with experience. The only experience I have is at a little "mom & pop" type law firm that I interned at. I didn't do more than simple secretarial work for them, so it's a little frustrating. I'm also starting to forget how to do things, which annoys me, because I worked so hard to learn it! I think when I can get back into it on a regular basis, like in school, I'll get better at it, but just trying to get in the door is hard.

I can't say I'm having the same sort of luck ... lack of ANY work experience is so frustrating! No one seems to remember that they were once in the same position, and that some one had to crack the door for them as well.
