Paralegal Career Dressing: Packing & Puking

I didn't leave work until after 6 p.m., didn't get home until after 7 p.m., and still have to pack for a business conference. So I figured I would just write "packing," and put up a few pics, and you guys would understand. I despise packing.

Linda Lucia top (thrifted)
Jones New York skirt (thrifted)
Connie pumps (thrifted in Tennessee, $2)
Coral skinny belt (Target)
Cuff Bracelet (Jada's Jewels)
Earrings (Steinmart I think)

But I thought I should be a transparent blogger, and give you a little glimpse into my so-called life today, so you can see what a bad squirrely woman I am.

While I was waiting in the long, long line at the pharmacy, the most cherubic little boy with the rosiest cheeks, started puking violently on the carpeted floor. As one gentleman immediately swiped the drugstore's handy sales circulars from their cage and laid them on the floor for, er, protection, my only thought was, "This is how it starts in Stephen King's The Stand." (Which is one of my fave books ever, and I've read, like, 1,563 times.)

Then I wondered if dumping one of the nearby 24 oz. antibacterial hand soap bottles over my head would be considered shop-lifting if I was willing and able to pay for it, and was standing in line anyway.

I did ask the poor kid's mom if she needed help, and tell a drugstore employee there was a cleanup, on, uh, aisle...the carpet. Then I completely wigged out wondered if I had just been exposed to The Modern Version of The Plague for the next two hours.

Which really interferes with my packing. Here are my thought processes regarding the key elements of my suitcase:

Those Blue Shoes (John Fluevog Breva Pumps go with everything)
The Miracle Belt (Coral skinny belt from Target goes with everything)
Zip lock bag of MMD button flowers and safety pins for any fashion accessory emergency (Megan Mae Daily)

It's okay if you stop reading my blog. I certainly don't read it :P

Name one thing you have to travel with that others' might find, er, odd. You know, just to make me feel better.

Addendum: I am super, super STOKED! Ally got the outfit Megan and I thrifted for her! She rocks orange!

  1. LOVE the pattern mix, especially the awesome neckline of that top. Really wonderful on you. And of course, I love the buttonflower on the belt (I may have snagged both your tweeted buttonflower+belt combos)

Yipes about the puking. I've been hyper paranoid about every kind of bug to man. (Tiny bugs are one of my biggest irrational ocd-paranoias, so fleas/ticks/bedbugs/etc make me have literal panic attacks sometimes).

As for traveling, I'm a terrible traveler. I pack EVERYTHING. I bring all the comforts of home. But if I bring nothing else, I bring my throw blanket. I use it half as a pillow, half as a blanket, half as comfort (yes that's three halves for a tatty-old blankie), but I have forgotten sometimes and can't sleep.

  2. Ally looks great in the outfit you put together for her. Crossing my fingers that you don't pick up a bug. The weird article I have-to-have to travel would be ear swabs!

  3. @Megan Mae ~ I still don't really get pattern-mixing :P Happy accident! But puking in public, oh, boy, am I a hypochondriac-type whacko...

@Terri ~ Are you SURE we aren't actually related? You've told me I look like your aunt. And I am so OCD about Q-tips my family doctor had to gently tell me to stop using them so much...

  4. I love "The Stand" and I love Stephen King!

Ugh, that episode would have grossed me out. *shudder*

One thing I always pack is extra camis. You can sleep in them, they add colour to everything, and they are small.

  5. I love that you used Addendum in your post--so paralegal of you! Also I love your pretty skirt! I don't travel enough to have funny travel habits though. :-(

  7. Thanks for the addendum -- I didn't expect it!

This outfit looks so lovely on you. Like what nature would put on your body to make you look good.

Your anecdote is cute. My mind sometimes goes in that direction, too, as the result of consuming large quantities of sci-fi.

  8. I love this outfit - I'll start with that. It looks lovely and I love the belt.

I totally can't handle puking. I would have run away screaming. It's the thing that scares me the most about ever having children. I just can't deal, lol.

Traveling - I love bringing coloring books and color crayons. My mom and I always colored together on vacations, so it's just something I have to have!

  9. Oh, you poor thing. I can barely take my own child's vomit. But someone else's... I may have joined him had I been there!

I absolutely LOVE this outfit! Especially the way the coral belt pops!

  10. haha, that is not something you want to have to deal with when shopping... yuck! And I don't think it's shoplifting if you use something and then pay for it. I do it all the time when I buy cases of poland spring and get thirsty while shopping... especially if i'v already opened the bag of potato chips i'm buying...

    Chic on the Cheap

  11. Okay....well, now I'm wondering if you were headed west on your trip and possibly carrying the plague my way. haha
Every time I'm "anywhere" in public and someone sneezes around me I immediately think of that movie Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman and Rene Russo....and can just imagine the virus floating up my nasal cavaty...and so I hold my breath hoping the germs will float on past me. Yeah, I'll be really safe if there's a deadly epidemic.
