I Hope Posing as a Paralegal Doesn't Catch On

Posing as a lawyer is bad enough, but now a Lincoln, Nebraska woman, Huong Dao, has been busted for allegedly posing as a paralegal for a law firm she never worked for – and taking $1,000.00 from a victim who thought she was paying for a divorce.

But maybe she should have picked a firm other than Berry Law Firm to fake working for. It sounds like she could use the firm's "aggressive representation for persons facing serious criminal charges."

As a way to generate extra cash, this scheme has a few flaws. People notice when they don't actually get their divorces. And even if you think you're flying under the radar by not pretending to be a full-blown lawyer, it doesn't lessen the criminal charge of felony theft by deception.

I read this article today, and my first thought was, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!"

Then I remembered that this is an awful situation. Dear criminals, please don't use my dear profession as a cover for theft. Thank you.
