Community College Beats Yale in Mock Trial Competition

Twitter is exciting. I promise. For example, today Elgin Community College, the only community college and paralegal program participating in Harvard's prestigious annual mock trial competition, the Crimson Classic Tournament, tweeted this:

I swear, my heart almost stopped.

When I blogged about the story last week, I emailed the team's coach, Ronald Kowalczyk, and begged for an exclusive.

And then, because I'm an impatient sort and can't wait days to hear results, I suggested, "Hey, why don't you guys tweet from Harvard?"

And they are. But I'm sharing the team's historic tweet here, because I know most of you aren't following me (@ExpertParalegal), Elgin Community College - or anyone - on Twitter.

See what you're missing? This is cool real life drama.

Team President Anastasia “Asia” Toufexis of Elgin compared ECC’s mock trial team with the Wiley College debate team that challenged the University of Southern California’s national champions in 1935. The real-life drama was the basis of the 2007 feature film “The Great Debaters,” starring Denzel Washington.

“We’re excited about competing against schools of this caliber and gaining some excellent trial experience,” Toufexis said.
And I'm excited for - and with - them.
