But that’s what Lourdes “Lulu” Mederos of LM Paralegal, Inc. does for a living, at the sweet rate of $125.00 per hour: she is the connection to the outside world for three (former? current? what's the right adjective here?) drug lords at ADX Florence in Colorado, also known as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies”.
Genuinely interested in this new specialty niche and hoping to find a business model online, I was real disappointed not to find a professional website or link for Mederos, except for an unenlightening MySpace Profile for http://www.myspace.com/lmparalegal that says she’s single and a Sagittarius, and a Florida Division of Corporations link to an inactive Florida corporation, LM Paralegals, Inc.
So I had to compile a list of Mederos’ job duties straight from The Denver Post article:
- Visit three seriously scary dudes (hey, she said, "they killed people" - not me), Juan Ramon Matta Lopez, Jesus Hector Palma Salazar, and Heriberto Huerta, one to two times a week, including holidays
- Deliver legal documents
- Provide the status of “the many lawsuits they have filed against the Federal Bureau of Prisons” (to distract them from the "mind-numbing isolation" of prison)
- “Offer company and conversation,” including getting the skinny on Salazar’s “own special ceviche recipe”
Mederos offers one reason for her anticipated job security, "…believe me, they'd rather see me than some old man attorney any day."
I guess so. Drug lords as a source of freelance income and job security for paralegals. Seriously, who knew?
