I’ll admit this story is a bit hard to piece together, but I believe the gist of it is as follows:
On April 8, 2008, Missouri paralegal Tiffany Adamson was walking into the Greene County Courthouse in Springfield, when she shared an (undisclosed) joke about a former courthouse co-worker with the (then) head of courthouse security, former Greene County deputy Robert Green.
Whatever she said, it’s obvious that Mr. Green did not think it was funny. He allegedly pointed his Taser (which I just learned is an acronym for a fictional weapon:"Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle") at her.
Ms. Adamson testified in Mr. Green's criminal trial today on third degree misdemeanor assault charges that, “He just gets up and charged toward me with the Taser. He looked mad.” Then she said he turned around and went back to his station without saying anything further.
Assistant Greene County Prosecutor Amy Fite said in an opening statement this morning, "At best, you can call it a sick joke.”
Mr. Green’s attorney countered that Ms. Adamson’s motives in reporting the incident at all were purely monetary (she has already received a $25,000.00 settlement from Greene County.)
The trial is the subject of intense interest at the courthouse, with even a judge watching the testimony.
