California resident Susan Monica Kriss was sentenced to house arrest and probation after pleading guilty last year to falsely reporting that a man was planning to hijack a plane. Because of her false report, the poor guy was kicked off a plane on his way to his wedding in Egypt – and had to spend $14,000.00 on last minute tickets. Why am I blogging about this story? Because the news reporter quoted her attorney John Passanante as saying, “She is going through psychiatric and spiritual counseling and recently completed a paralegal training program.”
As an interested representative of the paralegal profession, I wish Mr. Passanante had been quoted as saying, “She is going through psychiatric and spiritual counseling. She recently completed a paralegal training program.” Removing that conjunction linking psychiatric counseling and paralegal studies makes all the difference in the world. (Or maybe not. Did the paralegal training contribute to the counseling?)
Readers, I dearly love the news. There’s no way I could make this stuff up…
