Florida paralegal student Sandra Cicero, who graduates this week with an associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies from Pasco-Hernando Community College, will wear an additional accessory with her traditional cap and gown – a Citizen Scholar Medallion recognizing students who have participated in community service projects.Ms. Cicero, who already has a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and runs a furniture repair business with her spouse, earned the recognition by volunteering with Little Cats Rescue. She went the extra mile by scooping cat litter, administering medicines (no mean feat with a cat) and even helped rescue kittens from a rooftop. Much like the many tasks performed during the fast-paced day of a super-powered paralegal, completing the kitten rescue in a timely manner was important, to save them from being scooped up by hawks seeking their next meal.
Also, Happy Birthday to Ms. Cicero, who turns 50 two days after she graduates.

What a great story!
I've also worked with a local animal rescue group doing this type of volunteer work. It prevents me from bringing home every stray I find : )
This is the perfect time of year to contact animal rescue groups in your area and look into volunteering!
Positive feedback from Practical Paralegalism readers makes my day! Thank you. :)
Like you, my neighbor volunteers every Saturday at the shelter, and plays with the big dogs that she can't take home (has a pet bunny).
If you can't rescue a homeless pet but love the 4-leggeds and want to help, volunteering is the next best thing. Shelters and pet adoption agencies are also always seeking cash or supply donations.
