Deceased Georgia paralegal James Fleming continues to contribute to the community – even though he died last year of natural causes. Born in 1940, he worked at a patent law firm in New York for 30 years. He bequeathed $115,000.00 each to three non-profit organizations: LAMP Shelter, Second Harvest Food Bank and American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.As not-for-profits have seen donations drop due to the tough economy, this money couldn't have come at a better time.
"Gifts like this don't make a difference on a day-to-day basis, gifts like this make generational differences because these type gifts really change hunger for years to come," said Frank Richards, the president and CEO of the food bank.
Richards says these funds will allow the food bank to feed thousands of more people.
Mr. Fleming’s generous bequests reminded me of Luke 9:16: "He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky, he blessed them, and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude."
