According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 350,000 paralegals and legal assistants aid approximately 1,000,000 American lawyers. By the way, April 14, 2009 is National Be Kind to Lawyers Day. One suggestion for participating is to work phrases like “I object!” or “You’re out of order!” into your daily conversation. These phrases should be especially fun for paralegals to say with great enthusiasm (after all, we are celebrating) when responding to their attorneys’ requests. If you’re called on the carpet for insubordination, refer your attorney to the National Be Kind to Lawyers Day website. Here’s a cool quote from the site, a timely reminder for our sometimes overly litigious society that it’s a good idea to at least try to work out disputes before proceeding to filing a lawsuit.
"Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. As a peacemaker the lawyer has superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough." ~ Abraham Lincoln
