Attorney and Legal Assistant Charged with Accepting Meth as Partial Fee

Minnesota legal assistant Misty Iverson and her former employer, attorney Al Garcia, were each charged last week with two counts of first-degree controlled substance crimes – for allegedly accepting methamphetamine as a partial payment from an informant related to a client who needed representation on his own federal indictment for methamphetamine distribution.

As additional payment for his attorney services, Mr. Garcia allegedly requested the client’s Harley Davidson motorcycle and cash. According to the charges filed by the Anoka County Attorney’s office, when the informant offered the attorney two plastic bags containing an ounce of meth each, Mr. Garcia delegated the billing duties to his legal assistant, who then allegedly stuffed them down the front of her pants. (I wonder if she gave him a receipt?)
