Maine paralegal John Nathans, a former catcher with the Bridgeport Bluefish, filed a lawsuit in Connecticut federal court today, seeking to recover damages from former Major League Baseball All-Star Jose Offerman for alleged permanent injuries sustained in an August 2007 incident. Mr. Nathans alleges that Mr. Offerman attacked him and the pitcher with a bat during a game (after being struck by a fastball by the pitcher), causing serious post-concussive injuries which ended his baseball career. Mr. Offerman faced two felony assault charges but was given probation and ordered into anger management treatment. He was also ordered to pay the medical expenses of Mr. Nathans and the pitcher.
