Paralegal Promotes Healthcare Reform

Indiana paralegal Michelle Ross campaigned on behalf of President Obama during his election, and has enthusiastically continued to volunteer on behalf of his administration since he took office. She is one of many volunteers across the country responding to the current administration’s request for Americans to stay engaged in key reform issues, including environmental concerns and health-care needs.

Ross, 55, said she held a meeting on health-care reform after an Obama worker called from Washington to ask for her involvement. She said she was surprised to be chosen from what had to be thousands of names -- but she also knew the Obama team realized she had worked very hard during the campaign.

"If I believe in something, there's no end to what I'll do to help. That's the way I felt about the campaign," Ross said.

She said convincing her of the need to lead a discussion about health care wasn't difficult because of her experience of getting laid off at a law firm in October and losing her health insurance while between jobs.
