Job Title: Senior Immigration ParalegalEmployer: Cowan Miller & Lederman, Seattle, WA
Years of Paralegal Experience: 11
Specialty Area: Immigration
Career Highlight: Working with truly astounding scientific researchers. One of the best parts of my job has been facilitating long-term employment for international researchers. The contributions to scientific and medical research made by some of these individuals has been of such an impressive and exciting caliber that I have felt very honored to work with them to obtain their U.S. permanent residency.
Paralegal Practice Tip: Bring compassion to your work. Every area of law revolves around people with valuable lives and concerns. The more we focus on that aspect, the better our work product and results become, not to mention that we have way more fun. Every time I utilize professional services in other areas (home refinance, etc.), I am so appreciative when my humanity and my anxieties are acknowledged!
Favorite Internet Resource: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service website at http://www.uscis.gov/. This is such an obvious resource for immigration, but I have consistently found that going straight to the source is the fastest way to answer questions.
Fun Facts: I speak German and Russian, and I have two fun businesses on the side – writing environmental children’s books and designing fitness dresses. I love having a rewarding and professional job that still allows for life after work.
