The
New York Post is reporting that legal assistant Ryan Dalton, a member of New York Governor David Paterson’s inner staff, received a 17% increase in salary to $52,000.00, despite the governor’s implementation of a hiring freeze and request that 130,000 state employees forego a negotiated 3% raise effective April 2009. His legal assistant is one of a dozen members of his inner staff, including his secretary, his deputy, his counsel, “confidential stenographer”, two “confidential assistants”, and “special office assistant” (got to love some of these job titles), who received very generous pay raises.
The startling pay hikes, costing about $250,000 annually, were granted after the governor's "emergency" declaration in August of a looming fiscal crisis that required the state to cut spending and impose a "hard" hiring freeze.
