Legal Assistant Is a Candidate for Los Angeles Mayor

California legal assistant Carlos Alvarez is running in the March 2009 election for Los Angeles mayor. He is employed by an HIV/AIDS non-profit group and is a self-described “community activist, and a proud member of the Party of Socialism and Liberation.” Mr. Alvarez recently gave a campaign speech at Holman United Methodist Church, stating:

My campaign is a bit different from others because I am a socialist. I have a socialist perspective. I believe that the vast wealth of society should be enjoyed by the people who create it—the people who work for a living each day. My campaign calls for every person in L.A. to have a job, food, decent housing, access to free, quality healthcare and education, and a clean environment.
