Former Paralegal Only Female Officer on Police Force

Montana resident Keri Gunn is currently the only female officer employed by the Great Falls Police Department. She had retired from the U.S. Air Force and was working as a paralegal when she applied for the law enforcement position.

She states that there are times when individuals dealing with the police prefer a female officer. "It could be a situation where someone is suicidal, or dealing with sensitive issues.”

In an effort to increase the diversity of state law enforcement agencies, Great Falls is hosting the second annual statewide Diversity in Law Enforcement Career Fair and Job Expo on January 24, 2009. The FBI and the Montana Highway Patrol are participating in the job fair.

Officer Gunn says that even in a poor economy, there are always vacancies in the public safety field. “It's a rewarding career when you help someone who has been the victim of a crime, or help solve a crime and see a victim get restitution."
